Daddy taught us three to make marmalade the other day. We juiced lots of oranges for him and cooked it with skin and all sorts of stuff till it was ready to put in jars. We then put some on toast. It was yucky and bitter - why would you want to make jam that wasn't sweet? All the adults seem to like it though - I think adults are weird.

Mummy and daddy are up to something. They have bought me something they call big girl pants and taken my nappies off me. The first time I peeed, it ran right through the pants so the next time I needed a pee I had to go to the bother of getting the potty out of the bathroom, taking it through to the bedroom so I could sit in front of the big mirror, for something to do and peeing in that instead. It seems to be what they were after though because as soon as I did that everyone was jumping up and down telling me how clever I was.

I've got glasses now like my big brother. For the first half hour I was very pleased with them but now I am not so sure - it is hard to get used to focusing when you have been used to doing it without glasses. Mummy and Daddy say Léon took a whole week to get used to his so I am sure they will be ok by the time Farmor and Großvater come.

Mum finally took us back to the wind farm so we could buy our own windmills with our pocket money. I chose a lovely pink and gold one, Léon bought a blue and red one and Amaia got a turquoise and gold one.

I like to help mummy with the washing. I am particularly fascinated by the pegs used to hang it up. There seems to be a little spring in the middle of each peg. Once you take the spring out, they don't seem to work any more. It is funny, no matter how many of them you take apart, they all seem to function in quite the same way!

Sweetcorn tastes really nice barbecued. It also has strange cleansing properties. I had drawn all over my hands with green permanent marker and mummy had given up with both soap and baby wipes just before dinner. Straight after I ate the sweetcorn though, everyone noticed my hands were clean again. Strange!

I was standing there holding onto his stool while he was looking in Léon's mouth and he said - he wasn't worried about checking any of mum's kids except for 'him there' pointing at me! Him??? I'm a girl. Do I look like a boy? How many boys do you know who wear purple tights and t-shirts, how many wear dungaree dresses for that matter? What a silly little man he is!

I'm affronted! She called me a nonsense bag! What a cheek - doesn't she know a scientist when she sees one? When an adult fills a bath full of bubbly water and leaves it for two minutes, what is a baby to do other than test whether books float? How else am I supposed to know? She says the only reason I'm still alive is that I floated kids' books and not adult ones! What kind of mother is that?!

I've had quite a busy week this week.

Yesterday Mummy left me on the chair at the breakfast bar for five minutes while she was taking things out of the fridge. While she had her back turned to me, I took the opportunity to remove the flowers from the pots on the window sill to see if there was anything hidden in the mud under them - but there wasn't. What a disappointment... So I decided the next thing to be investigated was my pot of nappy cream. I found out that if you spread it on thinly, you can cover all your clothes, some of the floor and still have enough left over to taste. Daddy pulled off my dungarees and put me down so he could clean up. What else was I supposed to do but make my way into the dining room and colour in Léon and Anna's white drawing table with a brown pen... of course while I was doing that it occurred to me that if I was to stand on a chair, I might be able to reach the curtains and colour them in too but mummy caught me just before I could start.

I guess I need to go to bed now and think up some more cunning plans for tomorrow!

Mummy had a basket of clothes pegs sitting on the patio outside her bedroom door. I think clothes pegs are quite fascinating. I am particularly curious about the mechanism holding them together and causing them to open and then spring closed. I took about a third of them apart just to check exactly how they worked. Mummy wasn't the least bit pleased with me but I heard Daddy saying 'I bet Amaia is going to grow up to be an engineer', so I guess he is proud of me!

Léon and Anna have a little buggy they use when they are playing in the garden with dolls and teddies. Today I discovered I could climb into it and use it as a very comfy seat. Perfect!

Yesterday mummy and daddy took us to see millions of windmills on a hill near our house. They were really, really tall. It was a nice place to walk, though they were very far apart for someone with little legs like mine. I am glad I was wearing my ski jacket because it was a very cold place.
After mummy put her photos on flickr their friend Stewart - the nice man who left Collins so daddy could get a job there and meet mummy - told us that the windmills on the hill are from Denmark. Isn't that nice?

As of today I am a person who holds an important role in the community! I have been chosen to be the nursery 'Tap Monitor'. This is quite serious. I have to wear the 'Tap Monitor' badge over and above my normal 'Anna' badge. When children go to the bathroom, I am to follow them in and check they remember to flush the toilet and turn off the tap once they wash their hands. I have to check the taps to save the planet and therefore my job, ultimately, as Hazeldene Tap Monitor is to save the planet! I think that is quite an important position for someone who is just 3 years and 1 month old!

Today I went to nursery for the first time and Amaia was 1. I was put in the blue group and there were lots of new friends to play with. I played in the sand and my teacher was very nice to me. It was a very exciting day for both of us.

Well, today was a bit strange. I got up and Daddy gave me a special cappuccino and croissant and it wasn't even Sunday. On the table I had candles and a train and lots of presents. Then everyone sang 'Happy Birthday' to me and told me I was one. Apparently 11-1-11 is a good day to turn 1! After school I even got a pretty cake and lots of visitors. Everyone came except Pumpa who wasn't feeling well after a trip to the hospital and Derek who was working. I hope I'll see them both for a nice hug too soon.

We were all having dinner the first night Großvater and Farmor arrived. They gave me mashed carrots, parsnip, turnip and mash. They started to cut me a tiny piece of beef into little cubes. Everyone else was having big slices of meat. I didn't think that was very fair. Luckily though, I could just reach the one Daddy had put on his plate for himself :-)

Today Granny and Pumpa taught me how to throw and catch a ball. It was great fun. I even know how to say the word ball. When I came home I showed Daddy how to throw and catch a ball too. Mummy was very proud of me.

Today Daddy took us girls inside the igloo he made in the garden. It was warm in there and the soundproofing was amazing - we couldn't hear anything that was going on outside. He even convinced Mummy to pop in.

Daddy took me for a walk in the deep snow yesterday - he was going so fast I fell off in the snow and started to cry. He had to pick me up and dust me off before putting me back in the sledge. After that he went very slowly and it was all fine.

Mummy gave me a snowsuit because the weather has been so bad. I have decided I am not going to wear anything else until the snow thaws. I am really pleased with it. Pumpa thought I looked very funny in it and laughed at me.

I went for a walk in the snow yesterday with Granny and Pumpa. Pumpa helped me walking because the snow was too deep for me. I love my Pumpa and Granny very much.

I was up half the night coughing and sneezing so daddy took me to see the doctor this morning. She said I had a wheezy chest. Since then the adults have decided that as if being sick isn't bad enough, holding me down and torturing me with some yellow stuff three times a day is some fun, sadistic game but I tell you I'm not having any of it. So far I have managed to spit it all out over Mummy, Daddy and Charlotte and by tomorrow I'll have got even better at not swallowing it - just you watch!

Daddy's been building a big igloo all day for me and Léon and Charlotte to sit in. He used a plastic box to make snow bricks. Afterwards it was big enough for us all to sit in. Daddy put the picnic rug inside for us. Poor Amaia is sick so she had to watch from inside the bedroom.

I'm going to write to my MP to complain...(just as soon as I learn to write that is). Today I was invited to nursery for half an hour to play. It turns out all the boys and girls I will be going to school with have already started nursery and are having great fun every day up there while I have to stay home just because I am only 2. Surely if we all have to go to school together, we should all go to nursery together? And after half an hour they asked me to leave and let all the others stay and have fun. And I'm not allowed to come back until Amaia's birthday. That is just outrageous! I didn't even have time to try out their climbing frame!
